Woodwind Music Festival
This Wednesday, June 29, kicks off the first ever Istanbul Woodwind Festival in Turkey. The festival will run through July 3 at the Caddebostan Cultural Cente. The festival’s goal is to promote Turkish culture by sharing contemporary Turkish music with festival goers and participants.
Apart from the many musicians who will take the stage, festival attendants will be able to enjoy workshops, film screenings, and exhibitions. The festival hopes to bring together master soloists, choirs, orchestras, along with students, teachers, and amateurs. Prestigious instrument makers will also be on hand to introduce the latest and greatest in musical instruments and accessories.
During the festival two gala concerts will be held. The first being a flute recital by world- renowned Jean Ferrandis and oboe recital by player, composer, and instructor at the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique de Paris in France, David Walter.
The second gala concert will feature flutist, Walter Auer. Auer has received numerous awards since beginning his professional career as a soloist in the Dresden Philharmonic and Hanover NDR Radio Philharmonic orchestras. He will be accompanied by pianist Lilian Tonella Tüzün during the June 30th concert.
Other performances, including performances by Hüsnü Şenlendirici & the Taksim Trio, Istanbul Clarinet Choir & Soloist Tanju Erol, and Mersin Chamber Orchestra & Soloists will take place July1st and 2nd. The festival will conclude July 3rd with saxophonist, Andy Sheppard and MadenÖktemErsönmez Jazz Trio taking the stage together for the final performance.
